SGT. PEPPER PAUL (Room 316)

from $600.00

SGT. PEPPER PAUL (Room 316)

The concept behind Sgt Pepper was Paul’s. Now the band had given up touring and were concentrating on the studio, Paul had the idea to invent an alter ego for the Beatles, that would present new music but without the baggage that was associated with being a Beatle. Thus, ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was to be the medium by which The Beatles would present their new masterpiece. Paul, influenced by the names of the West Coast bands decided on a very long name. As John put it, he (Paul) was trying to put distance between The Beatles and the public “Groups were no longer The Beatles or The Crickets – they were suddenly Fred and His Incredible Shrinking Grateful Airplanes!”

Pepper, together with the second side of Abbey Road, are probably Paul’s finest moments. From ‘Sgt Pepper’, to ‘She’s Leaving Home’, ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’, and ‘When I’m 64’, Paul was writing memorable classics at an astonishing rate. What is perhaps the most remarkable thing about Sgt Pepper was that it was recorded on four track! George Martin’s contribution on the album cannot be overstated, as the album abounds with violins, string quartets, brass , piano’s etc and whenever anybody came up with an idea in the studio it was left to George to write it down (the only one who could). The end result was stunning.
